One of the best all-round scores from any musical CD. Jerry Herman at his best, and despite that
it was far from a hit. Revivals have also not lit and fires with only a concert or two being popular.
So what's wrong? Well I'm not here to criticise the score or story ( although I do know it does
veer from the truth) but the CD is superb. 5 Stars*****.

An attractive score especially the songs sung by Anna Maria Alberghetti. The word charming
comes to mind and I still enjoy the album after forty years. I suppose it is a little dated when
placed against today's musical outputs. Written by Bob Merrill I suppose it cannot be updated
for modern audiences which is a pity. It was perhaps one of the first "concept" musicals and
very cleverly and attractively staged. I can certainly recommend it to those fans that like their
musicals from the Rogers and Hammanstein era.

All these CDs are available is specialised record shops dealing with nostalgia or from the Internet.
They seem to vary in price according to the quality of the finished merchandise.  Nearly all have
been reproduced from shellac 78's and therefore it is the pristine 78's that give the best sound.
Some cheaper cds have an echo sound that is very off-putting and often it is worth having a listen
to the CD before buying.  The Cd's above get a three star rating.
