EBENEZER SCROOGE..THE MUSICAL...THEATR COLWYN..COLWYN BAY  17TH NOVEMBER TO 19TH NOVEMBER WITH SATURDAY MATINEE.


This is a new sung-through version of the classic "A Christmas Carol " by Charles Dickens and
adapted by myself with music written and arranged by Peter Williams.
It is produced by The Colwyn Abbey Players , directed by myself and the musical director is,
of course Peter Williams.

It has been in workshop, and rehearsal since the beginning of the year and although we have written
smaller musicals for schools and one musical for Llandudno Youth Music Theatre this is our first
steps in a full-length musical.

Written about twenty years ago, when we decided to make it more vocal than script it has now been
adapted to fit our local theatre and the Colwyn Abbey players. It takes a few new looks at this favoured story of a  disagreeable miser who is visited by spectres in a nightmare and changes his
outlook on life and love.

chorus work are imaginative and spectacular. A modern musical on a dated period. After saying all this, I have to admit the whole album is a bit much to take, lacking in strong melodies and ballads.

How easy it is to never be ill..... something that has never bothered me over the last eight years of
broadcasting on Tudno fm.  Two weeks ago I was suddenly taken to my bed because I could hardly stand up with a virilent flu something which I never wish to see again. The last week I have been recuperating but still unable to speak properly or indeed stay awake for  very long. You could say age is responsible, but today, finally I feel better and expect to return to normal on Monday with TUDNO TALKS at 10 in the morning. After that I expect to be back to normal covering my usual programmes.

The backing musicians are more up-to date and lose some of the feeling of that era. The singing is excellent , the show was well received , and it is a good budget buy.****.

A very jolly stage soundtrack.It makes you want to sing along and dance. A circussy sound that      the orchestra obviously enjoys itself along with the listener. I would never regard this as high quality music but in it's concept it is more than adequate. Is it likely to be revived ? I doubt it. But then I said that about "Cats".

I do have trouble reviewing this double album mainly for it's lack of tuneful ballads or catchy songs.
It is very much a visual treat in movement and dancing and acting but this is extremely difficult to put over on a CD. Sometimes it's exciting but often it's a little repetative and dirgelike. Dare I say it....It's a show you have to see.......Full houses only in America for over a year. ***.
