A lively musical written by Frank Loesser following his 'Guys and dolls' success and a big hit on Broadway. I saw it in London with Warren Berlinger playing the lead and realised that it's American theme would perhaps not be as popular here in Britain. Seldom performed by British Amateur societies it is nonetheless a funny cartoonlike musical. The album is great fun and some of the songs are familiar. A good listen and a great 'concept ' musical. ****.

I have never been a particular fan of this rock opera in my later years although when I was a teenager and the album first came out I thought it was wonderful  and a hopeful pointer to the future. How right I was. There have been so many sung-through musicals since which have all been blockbusters in one way or another.  Superstar will always stand as the first of the genre and for that reason, too much critical analysis is unfair.It's a good concise recording.****.
